I have never worked an all day job in my life, and 8:30-5:30 makes for an extremely long day. I haven't taken any pictures yet of my classroom, but I will try to do that this week.
My days at work are packed full. I usually have between 9 and 11 kids. In the mornings we read and do art and take walks around the square. In the afternoons we eat lunch and they have more "free" time.
On Mondays we walk to the campus museum where they set up a different program for the kids each week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we go to the pool. On Wednesdays we go see old movies at the Malco for $2. And on Fridays, we have field trip days. This summer we have planned lots of exciting places!
Chasing after the kids, trying to get them to LISTEN, planning, and teaching takes a lot out of a girl. Added to this, I have a nine year old child on the autism spectrum. Handling him is a challenge all its own. He is barely verbal and does not respond to instruction. You can't take your eyes off of him for even one second or he will disappear. He runs, and twirls, and screams, and hurts himself. Dealing with him is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. I find myself getting VERY frustrated after I have dealt with him for hours, but I remind myself that he doesn't know any better. That he isn't doing anything on purpose, but this is just how he is. All of this aside, having him in my class is SUCH a blessing. I leave work everyday completely overwhelmed, almost in tears, but knowing that there is NOTHING else in this world that I want to do. I am learning so much from him, and I am thankful for the opportunity to work one-on-one with him.
It is going to be a good summer. I am grateful for this job and the income. I truly feel so blessed.
Love, Amy
