Awhile back my friends Lauren and Caitlyn did blog posts that were letters to their older selves. I wanted to do one too, but I am just now getting around to it. I am sure I will look back on this letter one day and laugh at what I pictured my life to be like... But here goes:
Dear Amy,
So what's it like to finally be DONE with school? I sure hope putting yourself through 2 years of graduate school was worth it! I hope you graduated and passed (the first time!) all of those ridiculous certification tests you had to take. I hope you have a job that you LOVE. You were so passionate about the field of speech pathology in college, and I hope that you are still just as passionate. I hope that the career you chose is just as fulfilling as you always thought it would be... I hope you wake up each day and make a difference in the lives of your clients. I hope you go to bed each night satisfied with your contribution to the world around you. And while I'm sure you are so glad to no longer be a student, I do hope you make it back to your alma mater often. Oxford did eventually become "home" and truly is where you became an adult. You had so many great memories there, and I hope you are sharing the place you love with your own family.
Speaking of family...
I hope you aren't still single. Surely someone has wanted to marry you by now! Haha. I hope you got to have the intimate outdoor wedding you dreamed of... I hope it looked just like the wedding in Mississippi Magazine you had been saving pictures of since you were 20. I hope your big day was just as special as you imagined it to be! I hope your husband is loving and kind and works hard. I hope he makes you laugh and that the two of you grow more and more in love as you travel through new seasons of life together.
I hope you have those 3 children you always wanted. Two boys and 1 ballerina... oops, I mean girl! I hope you forced them to wear matching monogrammed outfits and spent way too much money on smocked dresses and hair bows for your daughter. :-) I hope you LOVE being a mom. Because...well let's face it... that's all you've ever really wanted to be. I hope you have a job that allows you to be there for them all of the time and that you get to do all of those "soccer mom" things that you planned on doing.
I hope somewhere along the way you actually learned to cook so your family isn't starving.
I hope you've gotten to travel and crossed off a few of the places on your bucket list.
I hope you still talk to your family all of the time and that your children have 2 sets of grandparents that live close enough to make it to their ballet recitals, football games, school award ceremonies, etc...
Oh... I hope you have a golden doodle too.
And most importantly... I hope your closet looks like this! (and is filled with J Crew clothes!)
