Regional Rehab Tour

Anyone who has been around me within the past 2 months has undoubtedly heard me talk about Regional Rehab. As you all know, I am loving my placement there, and I was so excited to be back this week. I missed my little ones!

So... since you have heard me talk so much about Regional Rehab I thought I would take some pictures today so that you could all see the place I have fallen in love with...

1. My office-

Okay so it isn't actually *my* office... Olivia Thompson was an SLP with Regional Rehab and recently left to stay home with her new baby. They are letting me "land" here every day since the office is now empty. But I like to think that it's mine... and I could definitely see my Ole Miss degrees hanging on that wall some day should they decide to replace Olivia!

I spend very little time in here as I have clients back-to-back ALL morning.

2. This is the table where I sit with my older clients... (ages 3-4). This is where I do my structured therapy.

 3. This is on the other side of the room. I spent 90% of my day sitting in the middle of all of those toys. It may look like all I do is play, but lots of therapy goes on in this space. Play-based therapy works best for younger children, so I let them choose what to play with and incorporate therapy into whatever they choose. During each 30 minute session I am all over this floor...up and down a million times... and constantly thinking "okay... how do I make this therapy?". No two sessions are ever the same which keeps me on my toes!

 4. This book shelf  divides the little table area and the play area. And yes, the room is always this messy. It took a few days for me to get over my need to pick up/put away every toy after the child is finished playing with it. I quickly learned though that a 3 year old's attention span is about .2 seconds... it's amazing how quickly they can go through all of these toys in a 30 minute session... there would be no way to put away every toy they play with before moving on to the next one... I would spend half of the session putting away toys! We do try to organize/ put away toys on Friday after the last session is over.
 And lastly...

5. My youngest clients are twin one-year-olds. And they cry... a lot... I always spend the first part of their individual sessions rocking them and trying to get them happy enough to play so that I can do language stimulation. I think the one-year-olds are my favorite clients.

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed seeing Regional Rehab!
