This week is flying by, and I got some really exciting news this week...
My clinical supervisor approached me Monday and asked me if I would be willing to keep my client( we'll call her Jane) that I have this semester and work with her again next semester. Normally, you get all new clients every semester BUT she wanted me to stay with Jane. This excited me for 3 reasons:
1. I have loved working with Jane for so many reasons. I looked forward to my sessions with her every week and I was wishing I could keep her.
2. I must have done an okay job with her for my supervisor to want me to keep working with her, right? Boost of confidence there!
3. After talking to my supervisor, and telling her my ideas for next semester, we have decided to go in a COMPLETELY different direction with Jane's therapy. It is a direction totally new to me. It will be challenging to me as a clincian, and I am very excited about that. I'm ready to go beyond typical speech pathology work ("the letter k makes the kuh sound, let's say kuh!" and dive into something deeper.
If you're interested, we are starting a methodology for non-verbal clients called PECS. It's very indepth and would be hard for me to explain on here, but here is a link.
I am flattered that my supervisor has confidence in me, and feels like I can handle this challenge. Jane is a tough client. She has had my supervisor and me confused all semester. But hopefully we are about to radically change and improve this little girl's life. I am excited to be part of this.
That's all for now!
Amy
