C25K

Couch to 5k! This is what I have been up to recently...

A few weeks ago I decided that 2012 will finally be the year when I become a "runner." I have wanted to be a runner for so long, but just never had enough motivation to do it. THEN, a few weeks ago I came across Couch to 5k. This is a great program that teaches you to run a 5k (or 3.1 miles) in 9 weeks. You run three days a week and follow the plan. Simple right?

And it gets better!

c25k has an app! You can download the app to your phone, ipod, etc and it does all of the work for you!
A voice comes on and tells you when to walk, when to run, and when to jog. All you do is select the workout (week and day) and hit the track! You can also sinc up the music from your iTunes with it if you like to run with music.

This week I completed Week 1/ Days 1, 2, and 3. I have really enjoyed using this program so far, and I definitely feel healthier. I am not using this as a "weight loss" program, but these are great cardio workouts for anyone who might.

That being said... I have signed up for two 5ks to run.

The first is in March in New Albany, the Amanda Price Memorial 5k Run/Walk and Fun Run.  I know most of you are familiar with Ms. Amanda's tragic story. What you may not know is that Amanda was a graduate of our speech path program at Ole Miss and an offsite supervisor to us clinicians. I am running this 5k along with some of the other girls in the program to honor her and raise money for her daughter. In March I will not be ready to run the entire 5k, as the program takes 9 weeks, but I am certainly going to try my hardest and see just how far I can make it, :-)

And the 2nd 5k I am signing up for is the Double Decker run in Oxford. By the time for the Double Decker Festival, I will be able to run the entire 5k!

I am excited about my new journey as a "runner"!

  1. Good for you! This makes me think of our "iPod walks" at ICC. Haha!
And you changed your blog! Very nice!
If I come to your runs, could I make those cheesy signs to hold up as you zoom by?

I didn't know that about Mrs. Price! What an honor to her!
